Tips for making the AMS 1 & 2 kits work better

matthew edgar

Getting TPU95A to work with the AMS can be tricky.

Short distances are best with tpu. If you have long distances or lots of buffers (X1C & P1S performs the best with these kits) you will struggle more.

Try this, as this is what we have done:

  • Start with the material setting " TPU for AMS " this tells the AMS that there is a softer plastic.
  • Release all the tension in the adjuster and feed the TPU95A in. If the TPU95A still has issues with retracting do this:
    • Go to our Cults3D page. The link is at the top of this page
    • Print the spacer in ABS, ASA, or anything stiffer & heat resistant.
    • Take the 4 way hub off and take the stiff spring out.
    • From only one side cut 2 full circle coils off.
    • Put the spring back in & add the spacer.
    • Reassemble.
  • If you still have feeding issues, go to the print head.
    • Take the front cover off and locate the side feeder inlet tension screw on the right side viewing from the front.
    • Once located drill a hole through both sandwich sections to allow a hex driver to turn the tensioner.
    • Start with single turns first. What we found is from full tension go 1 full rotation loose. That should fix the feeding problems
  •  Some upgrades that you can do is installing smaller inner diameter PTFE tubing. Use 2mm id and 4mm od. You can buy precut from here or from other places. That helps the TPU come back up with little binding.
